A summit meeting is a conference where thought leaders come together to create a focused strategy or policy recommendation on a specific topic. It can include a mix of speeches, panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities. Typically, a summit will be hosted by organizations or industries that want to grow their community of supporters or advocates.
Choosing the right format for your summit is important to ensure it meets the goals of your audience. The content should be relevant and engaging, with a mix of speakers from different backgrounds, industries, and geographic locations. This will help to ensure your summit is a rich, well-rounded experience for all participants.
The Miami Summit resulted in a Declaration of Principles and a Plan of Action which set out to establish a pact for development, based on the preservation and strengthening of the community of democracies of the Americas; expand prosperity through economic integration and free trade; eliminate poverty and discrimination in the Hemisphere; and guarantee sustainable development while protecting the environment. As part of the implementation of the Plan of Action, a number of international organizations were designated as Responsible Coordinators, or co-coordinators, for implementing specific Summit mandates.
One of the most important achievements at the Miami Summit was a decision to work towards the creation of a Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). A Tripartite Committee, composed of the Organization of American States, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean was established to work on this ambitious project.
