NASA continues to develop Mars exploration through various innovative and ambitious missions. One of the latest news is about the Perseverance rover which has succeeded in collecting samples of Martian soil and rocks since its landing in February 2021. This rover is equipped with sophisticated equipment such as cameras and spectrometers that allow in-depth analysis of the composition of the material taken. The Perseverance mission also aims to look for traces of microbial life that may have existed on the red planet. This was done in the Jezero Crater region, where there is evidence of an ancient lake. The samples collected by Perseverance are planned to be brought back to Earth via the Mars Sample Return mission which is designed to be launched in 2028. On the other hand, NASA is also working with SpaceX to create a transportation vehicle to Mars. The plan to launch the UAP Mars (Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle Mars) mission aims to support further research using drones capable of exploring the surface with high mobility. This technology is expected to provide more detailed data about the atmospheric conditions and geology of Mars. Meanwhile, researchers have also discovered extreme temperature variations on Mars, with differences of up to 100 degrees Celsius between day and night. This poses a challenge for future missions, especially in terms of designing habitats and life support systems. Recent research reveals that Martian weather patterns are not uniform, but are influenced by a complex and rotating wind system, which needs to be studied further for successful breakthroughs in human exploration of Mars. NASA also plans to launch the Artemis mission, which could open a pathway to Mars. The launch of Artemis 1 is a stepping stone in the development of space transportation technology, preparing humans for longer journeys. NASA’s commitment to exploring Mars marks a significant step in the search for the presence of life beyond Earth and a deeper understanding of our solar system. With ongoing technological advances and increasingly close international collaboration, NASA affirms its commitment to exploring Mars in the next decade. The project focuses not only on scientific exploration, but also on the technical challenges that need to be overcome, making Mars a potential destination for future human missions.
