Global Affairs Major at Sacred Heart University

Global affairs involve the interactions between nations, international organizations and non-state actors at a worldwide scale. They span issues from diplomacy and trade to security and human rights. In a world where we are increasingly interdependent, understanding these complex relationships is essential to tackling today’s challenges.

The major’s core courses provide a foundation in the political, economic and cultural processes that drive globalization and its impact on all societies. Students then select a thematic or regional concentration that aligns with their interests and career goals. The program also includes opportunities for study abroad and internships, which are essential to building confidence, connections and real-world experience.

Sacred Heart students use their expertise to shape policy, work across cultures and lead change on a global scale. Graduates find jobs in government, international organizations and private businesses in the United States and around the globe.

Our experts provide commentary and in-depth analysis on trending global news topics through op-eds, podcasts, videos and blogs. Portal pages organize a wide variety of sources and present a thorough overview of issues through full-text articles from newspapers, magazines and academic journals; primary resources including speeches, interviews and maps; and video clips.

In the senior year, majors complete either a capstone project in GLBL 4499 or write a senior essay in a seminar of their choice, or both. Alternatively, they may choose to participate in a global affairs internship. The Jackson School Career Development Office can help them find an appropriate internship in their final year of the major.
